Edi, you are the man!
It's crazy to think how long it's been since German mathematician, Edi Weitz, introduced himself to me after a concert we did at the North Sea Jazz Festival. It was 1997 and I was playing with "Legends", a group that included David Sanborn, Eric Clapton, Joe Sample and Steve Gadd.
Edi told me to check out his "Marcus Miller fan site". He said he had set it up because he was a fan of my music. I turns out he was an incredible computer guy. The site was so well put together that I contacted Edi (pronounced Eddie) and asked him if I could make his fan site my official site.
I'm not sure that Edi realized that he was committing himself to running what would quickly become of the busiest musician's websites on the internet for the next 15 years.
The site has remained one of the most imitated musician sites on the web for all these years with only one significant design overhaul. This a testament to Edi's brilliance and his buddy, Manfred Spiller's creative design genius.
This year, 2012, I'm presenting a brand new site. I'm giving Edi an opportunity to tend to his beautiful family and his growing career without the endless hassles of running the site day to day - although I do suspect he'll miss snickering as he goes through some of the nutty messages I receive on the discussion board! I'm reserving the right to call him for expert advice when needed.
Edi, you are the man. Thanks for being such an important part of my journey.
